The latest industry consumer behavior analysis indicates that the global outdoor grill aftermarket is seeing a clear "replace over repair" trend in 2026. Among all upgrade components, highly durable all-metal control knobs have become the top pick for DIY upgrades among average consumers, registering the fastest growth rate across all aftermarket part categories.
OKMA data shows that sales of grill control knob replacement products in the North American market climbed 18.2% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2026, with all-metal knobs accounting for over 58% of total sales, a 27-percentage-point increase from 2023. A core driver is that factory-fitted plastic knobs commonly develop heat deformation, UV-induced brittleness and cracking, as well as loosening and slippage after 2–3 years of use. Over 70% of consumers actively opt for higher-performance all-metal knobs instead of original plastic equivalents when sourcing replacement parts.
Beyond core durability advantages, the new generation of replacement-grade metal knobs feature a universal valve stem fit design and standardized mounting dimensions, making them compatible with over 90% of mainstream gas grill brands on the market, enabling DIY replacement without extra drilling or modification. Component suppliers are also expanding custom surface finish options, including brushed stainless steel, matte black and antique bronze, to meet consumer demand for a cohesive outdoor kitchen aesthetic.
Industry analysts note that as the global installed base of outdoor grills continues to expand, the aftermarket replacement and functional upgrade market will maintain long-term growth. As of 2026, the number of outdoor grills in service for more than 3 years across North America has surpassed 42 million units. Over the next 3–5 years, suppliers with strong precision machining capabilities and high-adaptability weather-resistant components will capture a larger share of the stock upgrade dividend.
